Jealous of the hip-hop community's vibrant patois of words like crunk, trip-hop and emo, Kevin Sampsell decided that the literary community needed to get hipper. More down. It was time to abandon the crocheted shawl for a bad ass pair of parachute pants; the dentures for diamond teeth.

Here were some of the new terms Sampsell came up with.

Litrosexual: "Someone who prefers books to sex." Otherwise known as "A Brownlee Ex-Girlfriend."

Evelyn Complex: "Named after Evelyn Waugh (a man), for an author with a confusing gender name. See Curtis Sittenfeld, Carson McCullers (both women)."

Beer Can Mystery: "The distant cousin of the Cozy Mystery (the light mystery genre usually read by grandmother types, such as Rita Mae Brown's Sneaky Pie series), the Beer Can Mystery is typically about men, drinking, sex, and crime. See Joe R. Lansdale, Elmore Leonard."

The Heterosexual Cloak: "A style used by gay authors when writing for mostly straight readers. There is also The Multi-Colored Dream Cloak: A style used by straight authors when writing for mostly gay readers."

I especially like that last one. I also think someone needs to coin a term for an imaginary genre where white people write African-American literature., something with the same hard sound as 'crunk'. 'Chocohonkic' maybe.
