A reader of this blog, who saw Long Range (featuring Paul Hartnall from Orbital and Ridley Scott-collaborator Nick Smith) play a live show within Second Life to 600 people, writes that the show went really well. The reader also explained how the event organizers skirted the usual limit on how many avatars can fit into a venue: by creating 12 identical copies of the island in order to accommodate the crowd.

"AsI am someone who did make the Long Range in second life gig, I canvouch for the absolute splendour of the event. The Long Rangeexperience was breath taking from start to finish. The event from myunderstanding was spread over 12 exact copies of the venue, currentlimitations in the Second Life platform restrict the amount of people(Avatars) in a given area. If too many Avatars turn up in one area theexperience is lost. The Long Range in second life gig was very wellthought out, copying the islands made it possible for the number ofattendants to rise so high.

"This was proof of concept for the world,
hey soon you will never be able to miss that gig and what about thepeople who have no other option. Why restrict your mind, for this isall stuff that should have been for the future and I am just pleasedthat Phil Hartnoll (Orbital) and his new band Long Range are one of thefirst if not the first success story in this medium. This was an artform we experienced and I am sure we will all experience this again.
Phil Hartnoll and Long Range gave up there valuable time to do a livepre release showcase of there new material that has not yet had acommercial released and all for free. And they have won the hearts ofall that went. Many thanks from me, and see you at the next Long Rangein second life gig."
