Motley Fool: Sony's Wii Dilemma

The money-savvy folks at Motley Fool turn their attention to the console wars today and ask: even if Sony is ahead of the curve in the horsepower race, might they be at the tail end of the Fun Curve?

As a result, it appears that the company is now behind the curve in the development of simpler-to-use and less expensive technologies like the Wii. In fact, Sony, which usually does a very good job of patenting cutting-edge gaming technology, didn't even bother to patent a Wii-like control interface -- one which senses gamers' motions and positions relative to the screen -- until late this summer.

The author wonders whether Nintendo executives have read The Innovator's Dilemma, a book on disruptive technologies. Oh, they certainly have. At any rate, he tells Sony that they can still catch up but only if they move quickly. Will they?
