Greece's Ministry of Education has banned cell phones in public schools, following a repulsive incident in which the gang rape of a 16-year-old student was video-recorded by classmates using their camera-phones.
The ministry decreed that pupils can no longer bring phones into schools, even if they're powered off. Teachers are supposed to turn off their phones during school hours.
The ban is likely to be an enforcement nightmare. A recent survey found that nearly every Greek student over the age of 15 has a mobile phone.
