Tom Whitnell from Music Thing lists the Akai MPC digital sampler/sequencer as one of his personal heroes, alongside such carbon-based lifeforms as Rick Rubin, Dr. Dre, and Radiohead. The same anonymous Japanese hacker who modified the MPC's operating system to fix a bug and add features from the more expensive MPC 2500 model has written a version of Pong that runs on the MPC 1000, activating samples when the ball makes contact.
