Even after only managing to get slightly less than 200,000 PlayStation 3 units into the North American market last month, Sony is sticking to its guns and saying that they'll have shipped two million PS3s by the end of calendar year 2006, reports Reuters:

"It is true that it took us some time to bring the PS3 to mass production as blue laser availability worked as a bottleneck," Sony President Ryoji Chubachi told a media round table.

"But 2 million and 6 million are within our reach," Chubachi said, referring to Sony's targets to ship 2 million units of the PS3 by the end of the year and 6 million by March.

At this point, I don't think there's anything much more to say -- we'll have NPD and Media Create numbers for the month of December by this time next month, and we can add them all up to see how it shakes out. If it comes out to two million I will post a public statement of defeat.
