Kavita was a blackmailer: Accused

LUCKNOW: It's a sensational story of sex, avarice, deceit and blackmail.
(((And that's not the half of it. It's also got politics, police corruption and digital media.)))
Meerut University lecturer Dr Kavita Rani Chaudhry, who had been missing for the last two months, had been murdered on October 24. On Monday, the main accused Ravindra Pradhan confessed before the media of strangling Kavita after drugging her with the help of an associate Yogesh. The erstwhile partners reportedly had a fall-out over the sharing of money.
(((That doesn't make very much sense. Why would you drug your femme fatale, strangle her, stick her into a bag full of rocks and dump her into a drainage canal, when *she's the one making all the money*? Treatment like that is the kind of fate a gal gets when she's having sex with powerful men and taping it.)))
The breakthrough has brought a heap of embarrassment for the Mulayam Singh government, since Pradhan named at least three senior politicians of being indirectly involved in the murky episode.
(((And that doesn't even count Amar Singh, whose phone was tapped by a centipede conspiracy last year and who made a nine-days'
wonder of it. Are these people part of the same conspiracy, or are there entirely CROWDS of sex-scandal blackmailers around the government of Uttar Pradesh?)))
(((And what is it about Indian politicians and *schoolteachers,*
for heaven's sake? "Dr. Kavita Chaudhury." You look at her:
okay, she's not Bollywood gorgeous. She looks like a plump, dull, college teaching-assistant. And yet she had a black book full of cabinet ministers. What made you catnip-for-men, Dr.
Kavita? I reckon it's a little late to ask her now.)))
The three include Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Merajuddin, who was the state irrigation minister till recently, Brijendra Pratap Singh, chairman of a state corporation with the rank of a Minister of State and RP Singh, former Meerut University V-C who was dismissed on charges of financial bungling over a year ago. Brijendra is now in former prime minister VP Singh's Jan Morcha. (((Whatever that means. This is breaking news, okay? I haven't named and numbered the players yet, and what's more, I don't trust the cloud of spin emerging from the smoking presses over this one. The one thing that's interesting about it is that it's a centipede somebody killed with a boot. A centipede that ends in murder. It's a wonder all of them don't.)))
Pradhan claimed that Kavita ran a sex racket and disclosed that Kavita had blackmailed Merajuddin into paying Rs 35 lakh for an X-rated CD shot with a hidden camera in the bedroom of his official bungalow in Lucknow earlier this year. To top it all, it was alleged that the state food processing minister Babulal Chaudhry would frequently speak to Kavita on phone, while state basic education minister Kiran Pal Singh was initially reported to be shielding Pradhan.
Kavita's brother Satish has demanded a CBI inquiry saying the police were trying to shield the culprits.

On Monday, the UP police announced they had cracked the murder. Kavita's partner in crime, Ravindra Pradhan had killed Kavita after falling out with her over money.
Kavita and Ravindra produced sex videos with UP politicians and then blackmailed them.
But there are many questions remaining; like Kavita's brother's statement, in which he says he heard her voice on the phone on December 7. That is more than a month after the police says she was killed.
(((I don't want to cast big speculative aspersions on this guy, but given this is India, how could a brother not be in on a racket like this? "So, sis, how's that university lectureship going?" "Oh, pretty lucrative!" Yeah.)))
It is more than a month after she is believed to have been killed and after this her cellphone was also destroyed. (((Kill the centipede, kill the centipede's cellphones. I'd be betting big money that was a nice, highly personal cameraphone.)))
(((Costs two politicians their jobs so far. Maybe three.
That's assuming nobody gets indicted for having her killed.)))

Lucknow: Elections in UP are round the corner, but the Mulayam Singh government has other things to think about. (((Centipedes strongly tend to coincide with elections, and this one is no exception.)))
A sleaze scandal has hit the government and a member of the UP Chief Minister's Cabinet - Kiran Pal Singh - is hanging on to his portfolio.
Two ministers of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) - former minister, Meerajuddin Ahmed and the current Food and Civil Supplies Minister of state, Babulal - have already put in their papers in connection with the Kavita Rani murder case.
Babulal resigned because his name was prominent in letters recovered from Kavita Rani's hotel room that said that he was threatening her. (((It's kind of touching and even vaguely suspicious that the digital Mata Hari here still wrote paper letters and left them conveniently loose in hotel rooms. What's wrong with email and SMS?)))
Taking credit for their resignation is none other than RLD head Ajit Singh. By asking his minsiters to step down, Ajit Singh is clearly building pressure on Mulayam Singh Yadav, RLD being a key ally of the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Western UP.
To add to SP's woes, the Opposition Congress has started taking pot shots at the Chief Minister and SP minister, Kiran Pal Singh, who was also named in Kavita Rani's letters.
Says Chief spoksperson of the Congress, Akhilesh Pratap Singh, "Ministers should resign and an independent probe should be ordered."
At the same time the Samajwadi Party (SP) has given strong indications that the relations between Ajit Singh and Mulayam are not the same anymore.
And it's not just the relationship between the two parties that is heading south, but even the credibility of the police is taking a beating.
Ravinder Pradhan, the main accused in the Kavita murder case, has said that Kavita made a pornographic CD of Babulal. He also said that this was not the only minister that she had caught on tape. Pradhan said that they used the CDs to blackmail these ministers and get money out of them.
The police acknowledges the fact that Kavita had made many more CDs of several powerful ministers, but says they are not ready to name these ministers yet.
However, the police's theory - that Kavita was killed because she was demanding a larger share of the blackmail booty - does not hold much water for the police has failed to explain why Pradhan would kill Kavita when she was a goose laying golden eggs. (((That indeed seems a bit peculiar. I also find it a little hard to believe that a 29 year old female academic decides to go shaking down a political party without any help from some other political party.)))
Yet another question that remains unanswered is 'why did minister Babulal call Kavita 57 times the last time they made contact?' (((Because he was upset.)))
These and many more questions that are bound to haunt the electorate on the eve of the UP elections. (((Haunted? Well, they've got Banquo's ghost handy, anyhow.)))
