Canadian coins don't have RFIDs in them. They've got something else, though.
ZigBee, maybe. Active RFID. Something home-grown by spooks.
*Who the heck is bugging the loose change in the pants of defense techies? That's pretty weird. There must be a lot of those coins wandering around loose, since change gets spent.
