Red Octane's Dusty Welch tells GamesIndustry.biz that they'll keep the Guitar Hero series on the PlayStation 2 for the time being, noting that Sony still has plans for the old workhorse:

The PS2 was one of the top selling platforms in 2006, and every indication from
Sony is that they will continue to manufacture and market the platform aggressively in 2007 and 2008.

Our plan is to be a multi-platform publisher, meaning viable platforms will be supported.

It's true -- with all the hullabaloo over next-gen, for the time being, PS2 is Sony's strongest product. The question is, will the PS2 see different iterations in the franchise, or will they be mostly identical to the next-gen games?
