I learned a new word today. Schnorrer. It's a Yiddish term used to describe a beggar or a sponge. Per Wikipedia: "The English usage of the word denotes a sly chiseller who will get money out of you any way he can, often through an air of entitlement. A schnorrer is distinguished from an ordinary beggar by dint of his boundless chutzpah."
Schnorrers, more familiarly known as schwaghags, are a common sight here at Sundance – easily recognized by the loot-laden shopping bags they lug up and down Main Street. A world of high-end freebies including clothes, jewelry, cosmetics, and electronics, are all doled out to our Screen Gods just because, well, they're celebrities. It's smart marketing, really. It would cost these companies a heck of a lot of money to get a starlet to pose with a product for a traditional advertisement. But give it to them as a gift, then set them loose at Sundance with it, where they're photographed over and over again, and voila! The product appears in magazines all across the country.
Can you guess who this is? She was spotted today coming out of the exclusive Village at the Lift, a collection of gifting suites surrounded by street barricades and hired guns that keep the gawkers (including yours truly) at a safe distance. While her hands are kept free for waves to the adoring minions, her five or so friends, following a few steps behind, are saddled with so-called trick-or-treat bags. Not so for one schwaghag of the less fair sex. Check this bootilicious shot of Tom Arnold at Celebrity MoundLooks like you need some handlers buddy.
