The Invasion of the Samuroctopi!

This one appears to be a singularity in the exhibit photos/scans but it's tremendously interesting. The rest of the exhibit has a bunch of cool fight scenes, etc.

One thing that Georgene doesn't mention is how the octopi aren't the only weird samurai in this illustration. The samurai they are fighting appear to be very strange too: they either have heads resembling meatballs or heads resembling balls of rice. Perhaps this is some sort of war of Japanese food stuffs: octopi versus meatballs and rice?

Does anyone have any further insight?
