According to Music Ally, a wealthy Russian businessman wants to buy AllofMP3.com and make the site acceptable to international copyright interests. The site already allegedly complies with Russian copyright law, and has been paying money into an escrow account that could eventually compensate the labels, which are scared to accept the money, since that would imply that they approve of AllofMP3.
In order for this to work, as Music Ally points out, the buyer would require cooperation from MediaServices (which currently owns the site), foreign record labels, the WTO, and the Kremlin. If AllofMP3 manages to secure licensing from one the majors, or even a large number of indies, the Kremlin would likely approve, since that would satisfy the WTO, and Russia would be admitted. As for MediaServices, it's hard to say how they will react to the bid. No matter what happens, the days of the AllofMP3 that many people know and love are most likely numbered; Russia evidently set itself a deadline of June 1 for removing obstacles to its WTO acceptance, including doing something about the site.
