A cradle to lull the iPhone (or, perhaps, a "tablet PC," as mentioned in the application) to sleep in either horizontal or vertical position turned up in the patent application rolls this morning, described as an apparatus for "docking a portable electronic device that ... operates in multiple configurations."
The docking station would use a Sonicare-like inductive charging system so that nothing actually has to be plugged in, thanks to coils and "multiple transformers" hidden inside device and dock to allow spooky charging at a (short) distance.
