Plain old plastic sucks: it's cold, looks bad when scratched or scuffed, is hard to recycle, and few apart from the likes of Apple or Sony can make it look attractive. The natural-look evangelism continues here with my knee-jerk praise for German design house Holzkontor's wooden PCs, regardless of build quality of specifications. Why? Because they come in maple, ash, birch, red alder, mahogany and many other lovely finishes.
Sold as complete systems or individual components, their PCs are also available in "stone," or, rather, Corian—yes, the kitchen surface material. Not only do they look bizarre (almost to the point of being Flintstones-like props‚ but you can chop onions on the matching mousepads.
