Nikon got a head start on next month's PMA trade show by announcing eight new point-and-shoot digicams in its Coolpix line.
At the high end is the P5000, a 10-megapixel model with 3.5x zoom, anti-shake and image stabilization features, high ISO options and full maual controls. It goes on sale next month at $400.
Mid-level buyers get the S50 and S50c, 7.2-megapixel models with 3x zoom lenses, 3-inch LCD screen, stylized cases and image stabilization. The S50c adds WiFi capability for easy image transfer. Both go on sale in April, for $300 and $350, respectively.
The S200 and S500 are 7.1-megapixel models with 3x zoom lenses and start-up time of 0.6 seconds. The S200 has a brushed aluminum case and will sell for $250, starting next month. The S500 is clad in stainless steel and sells for $300, also next month.
Entry-level buyers get to choose from the 7.1-megapixel L12, the 6-megapixel L11 and the 5-megapixel L10. All have 3x zoom lenses, slim cases and image stabilization. Respective prices are $200, $150 and $120, and all go on sale next month.
All the camera boast some new innovations, include in-camera red-eye fixing and lighting adjustment and facial recognition technology, plus new video capture modes.
