Grace Lee, a filmmaker who specializes in personal documentaries, wowed horror fans at the Slamdance Film Festival with her new mockumentary American Zombie. (You can see her at right, directing a scene from the movie in LA. Photo cred to Matthias Grunsky.) A dry satire, the flick follows four "high functioning" zombies through their daily lives in LA -- looking at the way people stereotype them, as well as how they find friends and how (in one case) having a permanently smashed-open head changes your perspective. A trailer on the American Zombie website offers glimpses of this pitch-perfect parody of contemporary identity politics and lifestyle pride -- including a great scene of zombie war protesters chanting "We're here! We're dead! Get used to it!" No word yet on how Lee is going to get this film into our sweaty little hands. As she told BloodyDisgustingTV in an interview, she'd love to get big screen distribution, but she's also considering straight-to-DVD and web release options. Will somebody please pick this awesome movie up for distribution? Fans are waiting!
