XM Satellite Radio, already facing a doozy of an FCC inquiry for its proposed merger with competitor Sirius, now also has to answer questions about it network of terrestrial repeaters.
Repeaters, which pretty much look like your regular big ol' flashing-light-on-top radio antennas, give XM and Sirius another way to disperse signals in areas with challenging terrain and/or lots of tall buildings, which can make it difficult to achieve a satellite link.
Turns out that a lot of XM's repeaters don't match up with the data in FCC licenses, something terrestrial broadcasters have complained about. XM could be fined and/or forced to rejigger its repeaters, which likely would mess up service for some subscribers.
