So, even though FCC Chairman Kevin Martin put a major harsh last month on a proposed merger of satellite rado rivals XM and Sirius, we'll note that the parties themselves don't appear to be discouraged.

A research note from investment bank Bear Stearns says that XM and Sirius execs still think a merger could pass regulatory muster. They're just being cautious and quiet in public as they get their ducks in a row.

The biggest challenges appear to be economic. How do you value assets like 500 hours of Howard Stern every week, say, vs. an hour of Bob Dylan. Best guess is they'll agree to a 55-45 split of a merged company, with XM getting the bigger chunk.
