It took Microsoft approximately 5.126 years to copy the iPod, but apparently the company is going to be doing something along the lines of the iPhone as well, which represents a considerable shortening of the "clone gap." The iPhone doesn't come out until June, and Microsoft hasn't officially announced any sort of "iZune" phone at this point.

CrunchGear received a tip earlier today, that it described as "sound," containing a three shards of information about a Zune phone Microsoft is apparently readying. CrunchGear's tipster exposed the following points about the alleged device:

- It will not run Windows Mobile, but instead something homegrown specifically for it (similar to the Zune OS).
- It will be able to stream video from an XBox 360 wirelessly.
- The team is shooting for a holiday '07 release.

If the iPhone is as big a hit as it seems like it will be, carriersbesides Cingular will probably be falling over themselves to be thefirst to become the Zune phone's exclusive carrier.
