As Iggy Pop said at SXSW, "It's harder to make handmade music now. It's easier to have a computerand send it... but it's harder to get from one end of town to the other." Ain't that the truth.
Fortunately for Amie Street, lots of people made it to Williamsburg's Galapogos art space last night for the second-to-last stop on the company's northeastern tour, in which The Dead Trees, Middle Distance Runner, and The Jaguar Club played shows in Boston, Manhattan, and Brooklyn (next stop: the Rock 'n Roll Hotel in Washington D.C., 8pm tomorrow night).
I shot video of each band, but the audio came out distorted -- need to put some gauze over the mic of my Archos 402 next time. There was a decent turnout, although The Epochs couldn't play because they were a bit under the weather (read: recovering from SXSW).
I asked Amie Street's Josh Baltuch why they're putting the tour together; here's what he had to say:
I enjoyed the show and think it's refreshing to see an online music store booking venues to try to break bands in so-called "real life." Boltuch said there will be more Amie Street tours in the future, although there are no specific dates for those at this point.
