Deviant Artist of the Day: Thomas Kuebler

Today's Deviant Artist is Thomas Kuebler, a North Carolina sculptor who creates some of the most twisted and bizarre, yet curiously life-like, statues you're ever liable to see.

His artist's statement is a hell of a lot less pretentious than most:

I want to tell wild stories in a single three-dimensional vision, to radiate personality in such a way that for you to ponder a sculpture for a length of time would quite literally flesh out a biography of hair and clothing and trinkets and teeth and fingernails, etc. But, what is most important is to create “the character” first and foremost, because, as they say, all of the special effects in the world can’t save you if you start with a lousy script.

He sculpts everything from witches, siamese twins and devils to celebrities like Alfred Hitchcock and George Burns. His Beggars and Freaks series is particularly good: sculpting as envisioned by Jack Davis characters from Tales From The Crepy.
