
Besides certain physical limitations, one of the factors that have kept UMPC mini-laptops from taking over portable computing has been wimpy battery life.
Intel says it will take care of that with a new series of mobile processors built with 45-nanometer components, including at least one slim-and-trim chip tweaked to make the most of the limited battery reserves that can be crammed into a UMPC shell.
Look for the first devices based on the new chip to arrive late this year.
