If you're looking for a snippet of customized music to go with your video project (read "online video advertisement") but don't want to go through the hassle of licensing something from a band or artist, try Orpheus, a small online music database that lets you buy snippets of sound for between $19 for short, static segments and $99 for ten-minute custom segments. Even if your ad or presentation gets played a million times in front of a billion people, you'll never owe more royalties for the music.

There isn't much to choose from on the site at this point, but what there is is divided into nine categories ("dance/club," light-hearted," urban sounds," and so on). You can hear full length previews of any of the segments; some of them even let you add "Hits" consisting of cymbal crashes and various sound effects. For instance, if you know when your character enters the screen, when the train leaves the station, or any other event in your video, you can easily drop in a cymbal roll to highlight the event.
