Microsoft Made HD Mistake, Says Epic's Rein

Epic Games vice president Mark Rein says that Microsoft made a strategy mistake when they emphasized that the power of Xbox 360 would be driven by the "HD Era" of thousand-dollar flatscreen TVs. I think MTV News' Stephen Totilo is bugf**k insane for not owning one, but Rein says it's okay:

The amount of crap that can go on in the scene isn't defined by the monitor, it's defined by the graphics capabilities. I think Microsoft made a mistake when they tied Xbox 360 so much into HD TV. What they should have done -- it's complicated jargon, but they should have talked about high-definition visuals and high-definition TVs as separate things.

Totilo concludes by musing that perhaps Rein was just "buttering him up." No, I think the same thing. But man oh man, Steve. Are they just not paying you enough over there?
