Phil Harrison is confident the the PS3 is going to be the One Console to Rule Them All, and he thinks Blu-ray is going to be the reason why. (Well, really, what else is he gonna say, that Microsoft or Nintendo is going to kick his ass and take his wallet?) But aside from the usual chest-thumping hubris that marks anything that comes out of the mouth of someone whose title can be boiled down to initials (CEO, VP, etc.), Phil actually makes a fairly good point:
I'm not happy that Sony is pondering my psyche. I feel the urge to don a tinfoil hat coming on. Anyway, Philly boy went on to say that Blu-ray is "trouncing" other formats, and he's right; according to Nielsen VideoScan numbers, the Blu-ray format is outselling HD-DVD by about two to one. Of course, they're both still waaaaay behind plain ol' DVDs, but if movie studios see this as an indication that they should adopt Blu-ray as the standard, then it may all be over but the shouting.
Blu-ray will help ensure success of PS3, Says Harrison [GamesIndustry]
