There's a curious article at Royal Purple about Michael Leahy, a Christian speaker who claims that his 30 year addiction to porn is what ruined his marriage. He claims that only by turning himself over to God was he able to overcome his addiction. Not surprisingly, he's now disgusted with society, claiming it is over-sexed.
First of all, if "porn with skin on" is how he describes a naked woman, I don't even want to know what sort of creepy exposed musculature cadaver porn he was wanking off to.
But his logic on the dangers of porn are just delusional: the problem is so clearly his. There's nothing wrong with (most) porn: it records an act that every person on earth has a deep biological and psychological urge to perform. Yet he's imbued what, in essence, is simply a snapshot of human experience with an insidious demon which he was powerless to face without the direct interjection of God.
Why's he done this? So he doesn't have to be responsible for the choices he made in life, which included having a dishonest relationship with his wife, then cheating on her.
There's no difference between this and the average A.A. attending alcoholic: they would prefer to believe that there is a demon in the bottle, that they are powerless to make their own choices about how they should behave, and that it's only by the direct intervention of a magical entity that they can become a better person. Porn's not a demon, because demons aren't real. Porn's not a disease, because you can't chose not to have a disease.
How craven.
