O.K., O.K., so it's not really for Classic OS. But this patent filing has been in the works a long time, judging by the accompanying illustration, even though filed only last december. Called Icon Playground, it's a system for displaying different-sized icons in the same Finder window.
To me, this sounds like a bad UI option to provide. It could be abused to annoying ends, resulting in window-filling "Install Me!" icons inside disk images, attempts to use icon size relationships to convey information (lost when the user changes the view mode) and other miseries. I can see, however, how this would be great for more "simplistic" interfaces ... but Front Row already does this, in a manner of speaking...
The filing is credited to Arnaud Gourdol and Donald Lindsay of Apple.
