More gadget news from the Patent Office, this time via the brainiacs at New Scientist. This new bionic foot has been patented by researchers at the Biomechatronics Lab at MIT in Cambridge, US.
The difference here is in the ankle joint, which contains a motor to control tilt, stiffness and and force feedback. Apparently it works in a very similar way to a normal ankle, only way cooler. The similarities should make it a lot easier for amputees to learn how to walk again, especially on usually tricky terrain like stairs. Perhaps the Daleks should take a look.
