"Scripting News is 10 years old. It almost goes without saying that Scripting News was the template for my blog along with so many others. I can't say that blogging has changed my life, but I certainly enjoy it, and I enjoy being the "alpha blogger" at the office. Since I was there at the beginning I'll indulge in a little reminiscence. Back in the early days there were no rules for blogging; people either wrote their own tools or used BBEdit. Some people chose the Day as the unit of blogging and some people chose the Item. And then LAMP came along and after that point 99% of blogs were item-based, I guess because it's a better fit for a relational database. I am a little sad that that code became the law of the blogosphere, because I think there's a lot of flexibility in the day format. Sometimes I like to tell a little story with the order of my links and I don't know how to do that with any tools except Dave's. Of course, now Scripting News can have titles and separate archive pages for different parts of the page, so there are some lessons we can learn even after a decade. This brings me to the CNet article; is Jorn bitter that he coined the world weblog and never made a dime? Why not be more inclusive? Anyway, I just had to let that rant out. On a personal note, Dave has been a real mentor and friend to me, even when I didn't deserve it. Namaste, Dave, and thanks."
