Research firm IDC has come out with its tally of worldwide digital camera shipments last year, and Canon remains on top, with Samsung climbing fast.
Total camera shipments for 2006 were up 14.5 percent year-over-year, to 106 million units. SLRs accounted for 5 million of those, an annual increase of almost 40 percent.
Canon led the overall field with 19.7 million units, an increase of more than 23 percent from the previous year. Sony was second with 16.7 million units, while Kodak ranked third with 10.6 million.
The biggest gainer was Samsung, which bumped off Nikon from the No. 5 spot, after ranking ninth in 2005.
