China's National Development and Reform Commission, the main government body pushing economic development, has given the OK for four more China-based consumer electronics companies to start making handsets, further crowding an already packed market.220pxmao_book

The new entrants mean close to 85 phone makers are now vying for the loyalty of Chinese consumers, setting the stage for a Spartacus-like battle of attrition that some analysts predict will only leave about a dozen companies still standing a few years from now.

Further speculation says that any company hardy enough to survive the battle for the China market has a good shot at becoming a worldwide player.
Says financial analyst David Wolf:
