What do you get when you combine Harmonix's rockin' game design, MTV's connections in the music industry, and Electronic Arts' obscene piles of cash? Rock Band, a game in which up to four players can jam on the drums, lead and bass guitar, and vocals -- either in the same room or online.

Rock Band is slated for a holiday 2007 release, although no pricing or bundling information has been announced. Will it come with one guitar or two? Will the drums be sold seperately? Who knows? I'd expect multiple SKUs, to say the least.

It's important to note that three-fourths of this equation already exists in Konami's Guitar Freaks/Drummania series, only released in Japan -- three players can play lead, bass, and drums together in the arcades and at home. But there's never been an online mode, and they've never added singing to the mix even though Konami brought that to the table first with Karaoke Revolution.

At any rate, Rock Band is going to be absofrigginlutely huge. I'm already mentally putting together potential bandmates.
