
Ethanol is better for the environment than fossil fuels, but could be just as bad for our health, says a Stanford University study.
Atmospheric scientist Mark Jacobson ran simulations of air quality in the year 2020, when ethanol-fueled vehicles will be widely available, and compared the differences in pollution levels between gas-based and ethanol-based domestic auto fleets.
These are fairly small numbers, given the size of the population involved. But that isn't the point, said Jacobson:
