I got my copy of Guitar Hero II yesterday, and of course I ended up with one of the guitar models that has been known to have busted whammy bars, and of course mine was busted. It takes a second before it registers, which means that getting Star Power on any except the longest sustained notes doesn't work.
But I thought it would be okay because I'd just posted about a hack yesterday that promises an easy fix -- all you have to do is loosen the screws that hold the whammy bar sensor in place and rotate it a bit to the right.
Getting in there was easy, but the screws that held on the sensor turned out to be so ridiculously tight that all I ended up doing when I put my screwdriver in and turned was to completely strip them. Upon comparison to the model shown in yesterday's hack, it seems I have a different model -- silver screws instead of black, and a different-colored metal sensor. Maybe the black screws are easier to get loose.
All hope is not lost -- I guess I could try some super glue or Fun-TakTM brand blue goop to make the screwdriver hold, but for now my whammy is still broken. So yeah, if you attempt that hack from yesterday, exercise caution on those last two screws. They're not going down without a fight.
