Fox News' Loathsome Obituary for Kurt Vonnegut

As an American ex-pat who left the country around the time that Fox News really hit it big, I've never really understood the beef people have with them. As near as I can tell, all news outlets wear their politics on their shirtsleeves... some are just more subversive and hypocritical about it.

That said, I'm with the anti-Fox people now. This Fox News obituary of Kurt Vonnegut is absolutely loathsome. It takes a special kind of evil to do a gloating obituary like this days after millions of science-fiction fans have lost one of their most treasured literary icons.

Here's some quotes:

By the late 70's, Vonnegut was rich and irrelevant, a sacred cow of the New York Literary scene...

After a quote by Vonnegut on how most writers have done their best work by fifty-five...

But Vonnegut kept at it and persisted in his unique brand of despondent leftism.

And this eyeball-seething closure:

Vonnegut, who failed at suicide twenty-three years ago, said thirty-four years ago that he hoped his children wouldn't say of him, "He made wonderful jokes, but he was such an unhappy man." So I'll say it for them.

Unbelievable. Fox News can go to hell.
