Google ate a rare slice of humble pie today admitting that they used typing technology from Chinese portal Sohu’s Sogou search tool. So far, Sogou has indexed around 1 billion web pages and ranks as 120 on Alexa’s most visited sites on the Internet. The Google tool in question is the Pinyin Input Method Editor, which simplifies the input of Chinese characters. Google’s response to the discovery came in a statement today sent to Reuters: “We are willing to face this issue of ours. While we apologize for the inconvenience this may have incurred to users and Sohu, we have also adopted immediate actions.” No legal action has been announced by Sohu’s CEO, Dr. Charles Zhang (pictured right).
