Greenpeace International has come out with a new evaluation of the environmental polices of major electronics manufactiurers, and Apple ranks dead last.
Ratings mainly focused on efforts to reduce use of hazardous chemicals in manufacturing and to provide recycling options for broken or obsolete goods.
An Apple representative objected to the rating system and insisted the company is as green as can be.
At the top of the list was PC manufacturer Lenovo, which got credit for bucking the trend of lax environmental stewardship in its home base of China, followed by Nokia, Sony Ericcson, Dell and Samsung.
