Intel says it's ready to hit gamers with a new Core 2 Duo mobile processor that's not only designed for overclocking but does it on its own.
The Core 2 Extreme, expected to be released in the second half of this year, will automatically kick up the operating speed of the chip as much as it considers safe, based on heat build-up. Which means the more aggressive you are about cooling, the faster your rig runs.
An Intel rep vowed the chip would be "ass-kicking." Which is fine for marketing claims, but we'll await benchmark tests showing just how much and what kind of butt is being kicked.
