Those lucky kids over in Michigan may get $38 million spent on kitting them out with iPods or A. N. Other MP3 player. The debt stricken state plans to tax soda and junk food to raise the money, and this has understandably caused a fuss.
An editorial in the Detroit News calls out the Democrats and with good reason: The State Deficit is around $1 billion.
The idea is that the iPods can be used as "educational devices". We're not so sure that there's much an iPod can do that a laptop can't, other than carrying data in your pocket, but who cares? Free iPods sound great to us, if not to the Michigan taxpayer.
An iPod for every kid? Are they !#$!ing idiots? [Detroit News via CNET]
