Samsung has staked out its position as the Switzerland of the next-gen DVD war with a new player that will handle both Blu-ray and HD-DVD discs.
The company expects to have the dual-slot BD-UP5000 in U.S. stores by the end of this year. No information on pricing, but it will be interesting to see if they can bring this puppy in under the $500 barrier many observers consider the benchmark for making next-gen DVD a mass-market phenomenon.
LG Electronics already has a dual-format player on the market, selling for a cool $1,000.
