Gadget scribes committed the usual array of April Fool's jokes yesterday, but we think a posting at The Music Den deserves special attention.
The item supposedly details Microsoft's plans for new versions of the Zune media player -- Zune 360 and Zune 180 -- which would essentially ape Apple strategy and fold in bigger screens, touchscreen functionality and, eventually, phone functions.
The remarkable thing is there's nothing really funny about the post (unless "disk mode" is a punchline to a joke I'd rather not hear) -- other than the very premise that Microsoft would pour exponentially larger sums of money into a product that still ranks below "rat-poisoned cat food" in consumer loyalty surveys.
Zune -- from "iPod killer" to punchline without a joke in four months.
