The bloom is officially off the rose of Justin.tv as technologists Chris Pirillo, Robert Scoble and Dave Winer have decided to join the lifecasting movement using Ustream. The primary difference in the case of the three new lifecasters is the absence of a wireless connection, so the stationary experience is more JenniCam circa 1996.
Nevertheless, this rush to try out the Justin Kan model is likely to catch on now that the Internet’s broadband pipes can actually deliver a respectable live video stream on the cheap. Ustream’s site makes the process simple, requiring only a webcam and an audience.
But finding an audience will probably turn out to be the insurmountable hurdle for most. I spent an hour half-watching the Pirillo broadcast before I could no longer take the jarring audio of multiple chatter coming from his friends. I stuck with Winer for a while, until his boredom with the medium convinced me that I should be bored and forced me to turn away. Scoble is set to launch his broadcast this morning at the Web 2.0 Expo. But it won’t be until after Wednesday that we’ll get a real idea of just how long The Scoble Laugh™ can hold an audience.
