Playlogic has acquired the rights to survival horror title Obscure II from French developer Hydravision. The next logical question is, "Dear lord, why?" The three others of you who played Obscure, feel free to skip the rest of this post, but for everyone else, Obscure was an exceedingly well-named title that, for all intents and purposes, copied an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You swap between five different teenage characters who are attempting to find out why kids keep going missing from their high school. Spoiler alert: there are some monsters involved.

Where Obscure diverged a bit from its Resident Evil-clone brothers and sisters is that it offered co-op play and was a mere $20 from day one. It had a fair number of neat ideas under the hood, but ultimately the control issues, bad camera, and crappy AI made it just too aggravating to be worth the effort. Obscure II looks like it'll be using the same party system that its predecessor did, but hopefully the AI will be less idiotic in this version. The PC and PS2 versions will be out third quarter this year, with a Wii version following shortly afterwards.
