
Back when an airy two-bedroom apartment was a particularly spacious cave, people worked hard for their food. Fat, salt and sugar were rarities, ostensibly gorged upon at every infrequent opportunity, and our palates evolved to let us know just how delectable these substances were.
Unfortunately, fat and salt and sugar can be found pretty much anywhere now, and procuring them costs little more than spare change underneath the couch cushions.
On a side note, it's interesting that the article, which focused entirely on evolutionary psychology, was packaged in genetic terms. Science has generally moved beyond genetic reductionism, but cultural consciousness has yet to catch up.
