Yet another departure from the ranks of video site Revver: Micki Krimmel, the site’s Director of Community, has announced her resignation. This is just the latest exit from the Los Angeles based start-up. In December, co-founders Ian Clarke and Oliver Luckett edited themselves out of the picture as Kevin Wells was named Chief Operating Officer.
The pay-for-plays model of Revver sounded like egalitarian paradise for the thousands of amateur video creators looking to make a living off their video works. But the execution of the idea has yet to yield any high profile success stories. Is Revver acquisition bait? Not quite. Rob Bennett, MSN's general manager of Entertainment and Video, confirmed that a Microsoft team had visited the Revver offices in January, but nothing came of the meeting.
Revver’s embedded ad/revenue sharing construct is still attractive, but they need some hype to promote their business model. They need a “video star” to draw attention to the other users on the site and general some real heat. Perhaps that is what was behind their sponsorship of Justine Ezarik’s one day take over of Justin.tv yesterday. Nice start. Justine, an occasional contributor to Leo Laporte’s TWiT podcast network, is suitably giddy about tech, personable, and, excuse me, much easier on the eyes than Justin. Revver, you have your answer, now make Justine an offer she can’t refuse.
