Sharp has unveiled a new phone display with four times better contrast than current high-end displays.

The new 2.2-inch display, which Sharp will also push for cameras and other mobile gadgets, has a contrast ratio of 2,000:1, way better than the 500:1 displays common now. The result will be clearer and more colorful images, particularly for mobile TV viewing, says the electronics conglomerate.

The company expects the screens to start showing up in devices this fall.
