Wiimote-Style Cellphones Play Katamari Damacy

If MotionEye is a Frankenstein's monster of a product name, wait 'til you see the product. Hooking together cameras, shake detection and motion sensors, makers GestureTek seek to being Wiimote-style control to cellphones. Yeah, you heard me: cellphones!

The first handset manufacturer to bite is Japan's DoCoMo, which is putting it in their FOMATM 904i series handsets.

"The new DoCoMo phones will launch with several dozen EyeMobile-enabled applications, including games such as Crash Bandicoot and Katamari Damashii that will bring motion-controlled gameplay to the cellular phone. Other near-term applications will include a map browser that enables rapid, button-free map navigation Future possibilities include motion-controlled menu scrolling, picture browsing, and digital camera image zoom-and-pan as well as gesture-based Web page navigation that will vastly simplify use of the mobile Internet."

That's bad news for us, given the exclusivity of the deal, but DoCoMo is the market leader in its homeland, so if it's successful, it's bound to head west sooner or later. More video of GestureTek's sci-fi gaming and UI technology after the jump.
