Two weeks ago we told you about the 20-year-old YouTuber Brandon Fletcher and his quest to land on YouTube’s front page. Embarking on a mission from New York to San Bruno, California for some face time with the YouTube high mucky-mucks, we are happy to report that Fletcher actually made it—not to the front page, but to the YouTube campus.
According Fletcher’s partner in crime, Phil, an employee named “Form” said that after seeing Fletcher’s original YouTube trip planning video, a security guard was hired just for his visit. Wow! ScaredTube, much? Actually, not so much. After confirming that Fletcher had not arrived to cleanse them of their Earthly forms in sacrifice to some unpronounceable Aztec deity, the staff lavished Fletcher with a schwag bag full of YouTube goodies. Alas, the co-founders, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, were conveniently missing-in-action.
So no amount of New York street hustle can land you on YouTube’s front page, but if you’ve got a few hundred to spend on a cross country trip, your efforts might be good for a couple of t-shirts and stickers. The punchline? The YouTube employees refused to be videotaped.
