Employees learned of the plan yesterday, April 30th. The layoffs will be in place and the company restructured by the end of July. The only specifics given as to the positions that will be cut are that 26% of administrative staff will be laid off.

Gamasutra recently spoke to Atari's vice president of development Robert Stevenson, who expounded on Atari's divestment of internal studios, and said that the company was transitioning to "a little more flexible model, with much lower overhead. You’re seeing a lot of those things actually taking a foothold."
