On July 7, 2007, legendary Japanese "experimental/electro/psychedelic" band and Sonic Youth-faves The Boredoms will play a free show featuring 77 live drummers. If you're going to be in Brooklyn this summer and would like to join or watch this massive drum section in action, there's more info after the jump; otherwise, just wait for the inevitable video(s) to show up on YouTube.

They tried this last year too:

"For this exhibition... the four band members will be filling [the venue] with 77 drum kits, which they will be using both asartwork, architecture, and principally for activation. Rivers ofcymbals and mountains of drums flank the centerpiece of the show: acircular platform on which the band Boredoms will play andunprecedented two free live shows..____."

That event was canceled, but it looks like the band's vision will be realized this summer on 7/7/07:

"Celebrating their 20th anniversary, the legendary Japanese avant-garde rock band the Boredoms will debut 77 DRUM
on 07/07/07 on the lawn of the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park sectionof Brooklyn Bridge Park. The band will lead 77 drummers in aonce-in-a-lifetime performance. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. Performance at5:00. FREE!__ Location:__ Lawn, Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park section of Brooklyn Bridge Park"

The number apparently has special signifigance to the band;
The Boredoms' MySpace page says 77 is "the 'performing' alias of theirmanager's infant son."

The North American tour has only three dates, one of which is in the U.S.:

Sat 06/30/07 The Warehouse Calgary AB

Mon 07/02/07 Phoenix Toronto ON

Sat 07/07/07 Brooklyn Bridge Park Brooklyn NY [the debut of 77 DRUM]
